Mind Map
The Mind Map turns whatever you have selected into a picture: a large oval holding the main concept, with up to eight smaller keyword ovals radiating from it. Clicking a keyword oval colors every point carrying that keyword on the map, so the diagram is also a highlighting tool. It can read itself aloud, and it can push its ovals onto the map.
Where to find it
Open View > Inspection > Mind Map. It needs point metadata to have finished loading.
How it fills
The panel summarizes over a WebSocket and redraws whenever the selection changes. What it summarizes depends on what you selected:
- A cluster or a Tree node: the generated summary for those points, falling back to the cluster’s stored summary.
- A bag: the points of the most recently selected bag.
- One point: that point’s summary.
- Several points: the whole selection.
- Nothing: the whole space, falling back to merging the cluster summaries when no generated summary comes back.
Large selections are split across more than one diagram: above 200 selected points you get two diagrams, above 300 you get three. While it works, the panel shows “Generating summaries…”; with nothing to show it reads “Select points or clusters to see summaries.”
Each keyword oval carries a tooltip with the number of loaded points using that keyword.
Controls
- Play Narration speaks a narrated walkthrough of the diagram through your browser’s speech synthesis, and becomes Pause and Resume while it runs. Stop Narration ends it. The transcript below highlights the current word as it is spoken, follows along if auto-scroll is on, and clicking a word seeks the narration there.
- Merge projects the mind map onto the map itself. With points selected, the highlighted keywords become overlays over those points. With nothing selected, Mantis generates a small mind map per visible cluster and places it at that cluster’s center.
Merge mode adds a second row of controls:
- Show Links / Hide Links draws a line from each keyword oval to the exact points it matches.
- Untangle repositions overlapping ovals, and Reposition puts them back.
- Reset Nodes restores the cluster oval positions.
- Create Bag (N) makes a bag from every currently highlighted point, named after the highlighted keywords, then clears the highlights.
- Clear Highlights returns the points to their original colors.
Merge mode also opens Highlighted Points Analysis, a readout over the highlighted points: the total count, a connectivity strength percentage with a plain-language reading, a per-keyword distribution with counts and percentages, concept density, topic co-occurrence for keyword pairs, and a keyword consistency score with the number of clusters involved. Four sliders under it set the oval and font sizes used for the on-map overlay.
- Select a cluster on the map or in the Tree.
- Read the diagram: the center oval is the main concept, the ring is its sub-concepts.
- Click a keyword oval. Its points turn that keyword’s color on the map. Click more ovals to build up a multi-color highlight.
- Press Merge to project the same structure onto the map and open the analysis readout.
- Press Create Bag to keep the highlighted points.
Limits
- The diagram is generated, not authored. There is no way to add, rename or reposition a concept oval inside the panel, and nothing is saved: changing the selection regenerates everything.
- It shows at most eight keyword ovals per diagram, and at most three diagrams.
- Highlights are cleared whenever the selection changes.
- Narration uses your browser’s built-in speech synthesis, so the available voice and quality depend on the browser and operating system. It is not the backend read-aloud used by the Reader.
