Settings

Settings is a panel of map visualization controls, not an account or application preferences screen. It governs how one map draws itself: point and bubble sizes, label sizes and opacities, cluster depth, how many points the viewport renders, and where the floating toolbar sits.

The Settings entry in the tool palette. This screenshot predates the current UI: the default Map uses a compact tool island and the palette has gained Reconstruct, Semantic Ruler, Heatmap and Pages since it was taken.

Where to find it

Click Settings at the bottom of the tool island, or in the Map (Legacy) tool palette. It opens as a docked Settings tab; clicking the button again closes that tab. Ctrl+, also opens it while a Map (Legacy) or Visual Brainstorming Map panel is on screen, which is where that shortcut is registered.

Visualization Settings

The main card, with a Reset Defaults link in its header:

ControlWhat it changes
Bubble SizeSize of bag and keyword bubbles on the map.
Halo SizeSelection halos and highlight circles around points you interact with.
Point SizeSize of data points. Saved per page.
Cluster Label Font SizeType size of cluster labels.
Point Title Font SizeType size of the title shown when you hover a point.
Controls Font SizeType size of this panel's own controls.
Cluster DepthHow many levels of the cluster hierarchy to display.
Local LabelsHow many extra labels to show for points sitting together.
Cluster Label OpacityOpacity of cluster labels.
Cluster Boundary OpacityOpacity of cluster contours.
Path Tool RadiusCollection radius of the Path tool, 5 to 500 px. Hover the slider to preview it on the map.
Confidence Ellipse Alpha and SizeTransparency and scale of the uncertainty ellipses drawn around points.

Viewport sampling

Large maps render a representative sample rather than every row. Viewport point budget sets how many points that sample may contain, with quick presets at 10k, 100k, 300k and 1M and a button that jumps to all source points or the server maximum. The panel states the current budget against the source point count above the field. Raising the budget preserves rare structure at the cost of browser memory and load time.

Two toggles sit alongside it:

  • Show Cluster Counters shows or hides source-cluster labels without changing their opacity.
  • Show Cluster Boundaries draws cluster contours. Contours start off on maps over 100,000 points to keep interaction responsive.

Floating toolbar

Edit mode makes the tool island and the floating map controls draggable; on release each snaps to the nearest edge. Performance overlay (FPS) adds a frame-rate readout, and Show minimap toggles the minimap.

Selection Actions

A checklist of the panels that open automatically when your selection meets their requirements, with each panel's point count and required data types shown beside it. It has its own Reset Defaults link.

An older Settings panel. The controls shown here, including the gradient feature picker, have since been replaced by the Visualization Settings card described above.

INFO

Some sliders exist for both maps but only affect one. Confidence ellipses and several label controls are drawn by the legacy Three.js renderer, so changing them may have no visible effect on the default WebGL Map.
