Video Player
The Video Player watches one point and plays the video its metadata points at. Hovering a point shows a thumbnail; selecting one swaps the thumbnail for an embedded player you can actually watch. It is the video counterpart of Live Image Preview, and the panel you want in a space built from lecture recordings or clips.
Where to find it
Open View > Inspection > Video Player. The panel needs point metadata to have finished loading.
How it fills
The panel shows one point at a time:
- With a current selection, it stays on that point and renders full players.
- With no selection, it follows the point you hover on the map and renders thumbnails.
It scans every metadata value of that point, plus its title, for YouTube and Panopto URLs, and renders one preview per distinct URL found. A point with two video links gets two players, stacked in a scrolling column.
- YouTube links are recognized from
youtube.comandyoutu.be, includingwatch,embed,/v/andshortsforms. The thumbnail is the video’shqdefaultimage; the player is the standard YouTube embed, and it does not autoplay. - Panopto links are recognized from
panopto.com. Viewer URLs are rewritten into embed URLs, carrying thestarttimestamp across when the link has one.
When nothing matches, the panel reads No display data found.
Limits
- Only YouTube and Panopto are recognized. Direct video files and other hosts are not rendered.
- The panel has no link control in its tab bar, so it always follows hover while nothing is selected. Select a point to pin it.
- It is a preview surface, not a transcript view. A Video Space has its own Video Player and Transcript panels, which play the space’s source video and seek to the selected point.
- The Panopto thumbnail URL Mantis builds is not an officially supported endpoint and may not resolve. If a hovered Panopto point stays blank, select it to get the embedded player.
